Haste Launches Inaugural Developer Competition

The first developer competition will attract independent game developers to submit games to the Haste Arcade

  1. Introduce independent game developers to Haste’s Instant Leaderboard Payouts (ILPs)
  2. Add games to the Haste Arcade
  3. Test the Haste SDK before targeting mainstream gamers and AAA game studios

What are Instant Leaderboard Payouts?

To get an idea of how ILP™ Gaming works, imagine the following scenario:

You put a quarter in a Pac-Man machine and get the high score. For having the high score, you get a percentage of every subsequent quarter spent on that Pac-Man machine until your score is no longer on the leaderboard.

What this creates is a new way for game developers to generate revenue on each gameplay of their game. Sure, this model exists in actual arcades, but transferring money on the internet is not as simple as dropping a quarter in an arcade machine. Due to credit card processing fees, it is extremely rare for online vendors to charge less than $1 for any item or service. Because of this, if a gamer is playing in a pay to play online arcade, they typically have to preload at least a few bucks into an account that they don’t have custodial control over. However, through the use of micro payments that are only possible with blockchain technology, the Haste Arcade gives gamers a way to play individual games for as little as 1/10th of a penny in the Haste Arcade, while maintaining full custodial control over their funds.

This means that Haste never actually touches the gamer’s money

The cost of each gameplay is distributed amongst several output channels — leaderboard members described in the Pac-Man scenario, a Haste loyalty program, and Haste/the game developer. Outputs flow directly from the gamer to the output channel with minimal fees, no chargebacks, and virtually instant payment deposits.

The Prize Pool

Most game developers have never heard of Haste, so the developer competition is a great way to showcase a new revenue stream for game developers, in the form of Instant Leaderboard Payouts. As a way to incentivize submissions, Haste is rewarding $10,000 in cash or Bitcoin SV, along with 250,000 HST tokens, and NFTs that designate game developer status to the top games. Here’s a breakdown of the competition prizes:

Game Submission Requirements

A full list of requirements can be found here, but the main criteria game developers will need to follow is:

  • Submissions must utilize the Haste Developer SDK
  • Submissions must be skilled based, no games of chance
  • Submissions must be compatible for mobile and/or desktop gaming
  • Submissions cannot be derogatory, offensive, or inappropriate in any way

Submission Process

Game developers will need to integrate their game using the Haste Arcade SDK and can submit games through the Haste Developer Portal starting November 1, 2021. Once a game is submitted, it will be reviewed by the Haste Team to make sure it meets all of the requirements. The review process may take up to 1 week. If the Haste Team accepts the game, it is immediately listed in the Haste Arcade. If the Haste Team finds that the game does not meet all of the requirements, the developer will be notified with a list of reasons why their game was not accepted. Developers are welcome to re-submit games that have been rejected.

Judging and Scoring Information

Judging Panel

The judging panel will consist of the Haste Founding Team and all Haste Player Card Holders. Each judge will have 5 bonus points that they can award to their favorite game (roughly 100 judges, roughly 500 bonus points). Judges will award their bonus points at the end of the competition.

Scoring Information

In addition to the bonus point system, submitted games will earn points based on 3 objective statistics (500 points available per statistic, 1,500 points total). Points will be distributed based on a game’s:

  1. Total Games Played
  2. Total Duro Spent
  3. Total Unique Gamers

Example: Kate submits a game that has the most “Total Unique Gamers” at the end of the developer competition, putting her in the number 1 position of the Total Unique Gamer leaderboard. Her position earns her 100 points.

Important Dates

Submission Start Date — November 1, 2021
